be the gift.

I’m so excited to announce the launch of a project/new shop I’ve been working on for a few months now in cahoots with the lovely ladies at Typecase Industries – letterpressed IOUs!

I started IOU to have a pretty way to gift favors for loved ones (and buy cards no one will want to toss). They’re a tactile way to graciously give bits of our time.

The inaugural line, IOUs for New Moms, was born out of my gratefulness to friends and family who, in those first few weeks of new parent delirium, gave me the most caring and considerate gifts I didn’t even know I needed. The onesies and bottles were of course much needed too, but calls saying “We’re coming over to wash your dishes” or “We’re coming over to hold the baby so you can sleep” left me speechless. “How can I help” inquiries were equally selfless, but in my sleep-deprived and overwhelmed state, I never knew how to respond. Where would I even begin? There were a million things to do.

Cue IOUs for New Moms. For all the generous friends and family out there who may or may not need hints for what a new mom needs most – hand-lettered, letterpressed cards she knows she can cash in when everything piles up at once.

I’d love it if you guys checked out the shop and took a look around. These would be perfect for that next baby shower you have on your calendar!

the union square collection

I’m branching out into new lettering styles! This is the first of a few more to come, and in keeping with the naming convention [of favorite streets and neighborhoods from past travels], I’ve dubbed this one Union Square. It’s where I stayed in San Francisco with my childhood girlfriends back in 2007 [#hasitbeenthatlong]. Yes, I sometimes think in hashtags. And that’s my cue to get off the computer.

write a friend a week project

I’m terrible at keeping in touch with friends and family. But even when I do, all the technology at our fingertips makes it feel so impersonal. Facebook and texting are great, but I miss snail mail. So one of my Day Zero Project goals is to write a letter once a week (for a year) to 52 people I care about. It can be an old friend, a new friend, or someone I’ve lost regular contact with. It might be a catch-up letter or just a simple note about why I appreciate them.

I start this week and because I always need something to keep me organized and accountable when accomplishing a new goal, this air mail pad was the perfect thing. It has 50 sheets (just 2 sheets short of a full year) and I can just write, fold, and send.

Do you guys still send loved ones snail mail?

Happy Thursday!

greetings from new york

Last month our DC friends threw us an amazing New York themed baby shower since we’re always there and also because of my love of this book. Everywhere you looked there were thoughtful details incorporated in the food, decor, games, and prizes.

To thank all of our dear friends for their presence and gifts for little Lincoln, I started searching for New York themed thank you cards, but found nothing. So I turned to Zazzle for vintage reproductions of New York postcards. Even better.

2012 u.s. stamp preview

You guys! I came across the link for the 2012 stamp preview and couldn’t believe how amazing they are. High five, USPS! You’ve really been stepping up your game lately. As a complete stamp nerd (I have a full desk drawer devoted to both old and new stamps), this totally made my weekend. These are some of my favorites, but there are so many other great ones.

birds of a feather photoshoot | featured on style me pretty florida

One of my goals this year was to have an invitation suite or calligraphy project published on a wedding or paper blog. Just 3 days into the new year I found out that this amazing inspiration shoot you’re about to see was scheduled to appear on Style Me Pretty Florida this morning. Needless to say, lots of happy dancing ensued and even the little guy did some flips in my belly.

So grateful that I was a part of such a talented and creative team of people. The gorgeous images are all by my good friend Diana Lupu and all of the incredible details were styled by the fabulous Kasey Davenport of Kasey D Weddings. And aren’t the models ridiculously good looking? A list of the other talented vendors that made this shoot possible is available here.

When Kasey told me her vision for the shoot, I was immediately on board and got to work on this feather and antler suite. The originals are designed with charcoal and pastels to exude the warmth and texture of crackling logs in a fireplace. The lettering on the envelope was painted with a custom-mixed turquoise gouache. It was sooo difficult choosing only a few photos to post, but you can see the full gallery here.

magnolias + the old south | bridal luncheon invitations

I’m pretty excited to show you guys a project I’ve been working on the last couple of weeks. My friend Jessica is throwing a bridal luncheon for her cousin Marie and when she asked me to design the invitations, I was beyond thrilled. The theme is magnolias/Old South with a modern twist and a color palette of green, brown, and cream. I know. Fabulous, right?

After the letterpress plates arrived in the mail last week, we had a printing/pizza party with our friend Blake, printer extraordinaire. Then this week, I whipped up some fancy addressing on the envelopes and fixed on these beautiful vintage stamps.

Marie, I would say I hope your luncheon, wedding, and all the other festivities are fabulous. But I have no doubt they will be. You Southern folk always know how to have a good time! ;] Congratulations!
