wishing you a year filled with love…

I think New Years is my second favorite holiday after Christmas. There’s something thrilling about new beginnings and fresh starts, and also looking back at the last 365 days and reflecting on the amazing things that happened. The only downside is that as I make (and re-make the ones that didn’t last past the first month) my resolutions for the year to come, my shortcomings and struggles are ten times more glaring and obvious on this day of the year.

To make myself feel better, for every 2013 resolution, I tried to come up with a list of my accomplishments and things I’ve learned in 2012. And it worked for the most part. I think we’d all surprise ourselves with how many things would be on our list if we made one.

Anyway, my mantra this year, inspired by Bob Goff’s book, is Love Does. I struggle with comfort zone issues, and the more I made my way through this book (Which will make you laugh, cry, and want to live life. Like really really live it.), I realized that perhaps the root of this is not loving intentionally enough. Like the title suggests, if you love something or someone, you do. That’s so true, isn’t it? If we love something, we make time for it without even a second thought. Verses like 1 Corinthians 13:13 (“…the greatest of these is love”) and Mark 12:31 (“Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater…”) have never challenged me more. I mean really think about loving your neighbor as yourself. Whoa. Right? No wonder we’re commanded to love over and over. We’d be a lot more motivated to actually do stuff.

So this year I really want to explore what a life full of more love can do. Specifically, in what I’ve chosen as my 5 priorities (that all happen to start with F): faith, family, freelancing, friends, and fitness. I’ve been asking myself questions like, “What if what broke God’s heart broke mine too?” or “What if I turned my have-tos into want-tos?” or “What if I stopped being on Facebook so much and actually invited a living person over?” or “What if I tried to have a meaningful conversation with the person down the hall instead of just talking about the weather?” or “What if I actually made something for someone instead of just pinning ideas all the time?”. The world would be a better place if we loved a little more. We’d go the extra mile.

So here’s to love and moving mountains with it. Happy 2013, you guys!

monday motivations | to be alive

I’ve been MIA for over a week and now I’m blogging Monday Motivations on a Tuesday night. It’s only fitting since I’ve been playing catch-up the entire month of November. And we’re kind of living in New York for the next month. (Whaaaaat?) After being in upstate New York for two weeks, Andrew was transferred to Manhattan last week. So Linky and I packed up the car and drove here asap.

Some things I’ve been especially grateful for in no particular order: for this time in one of my favorite cities, a hard-working husband, that God is in control, health, burgers, girlfriends both old and new, and sunny days in the middle of cloudy weeks.

monday motivations | make your bed and shower

Fully aware my lack of discipline could get real ugly real fast as a stay-at-home mom, I’ve gone out of my way to create structure and routine. It’s still a work in progress for sure, but over the last couple weeks I’ve noticed this is my formula for a productive day. I never really saw the point of bed-making. I mean it’s just going to get messy again that same day, right? But now it somehow puts a period on everything from the previous day and presses restart.

monday motivations | get involved

I’ve been really challenged lately to plug into my community, get involved, and stop thinking that someone else will do it. If you’ve also struggled with staying in your comfort zone too and making excuses, join me!

monday motivations | breaking bad habits

Maybe it’s because fall is around the corner or because I’ve been spending a lot more time indoors because of this triple digit heat index, but I have this constant OCD itch to declutter, organize, reprioritize, and break bad habits. I guess that means I’m looking to clear my mind. I’m spending this week trying to make a game plan.

My main bad habit targets are overthinking (this is a big one), not exercising, not going to the chiropractor, not speaking enough Romanian to Linky. There’s a long list of others, but I think that’s enough for one week. Have you guys read The Power of Habit? Considering it for this month…
