I’m working on invitations this weekend for a Cinco de Mayo party and found inspiration in these photos of Mexican lettering. So vibrant and fun!

[mini bookshelf] six bible stories for little ones

Has anyone else noticed that most children’s Bible story books out there either have cheesy illustrations or ugly binding with cheap-looking, glossy covers? Yeah, me too. These are six timeless Old Testament picture books I’ve come across so far.

Esther / Noah / Daniel / Joseph / Ruth / Jonah

new years 2012 in illustrations

Yet again, I didn’t take photos on a major holiday, so I doodled some memories in the form of a card for our friends that hosted. I’m really hoping having a child will force me to take out the camera more this year. It is a Day Zero Project goal after all.

2012 u.s. stamp preview

You guys! I came across the link for the 2012 stamp preview and couldn’t believe how amazing they are. High five, USPS! You’ve really been stepping up your game lately. As a complete stamp nerd (I have a full desk drawer devoted to both old and new stamps), this totally made my weekend. These are some of my favorites, but there are so many other great ones.

birds of a feather photoshoot | featured on style me pretty florida

One of my goals this year was to have an invitation suite or calligraphy project published on a wedding or paper blog. Just 3 days into the new year I found out that this amazing inspiration shoot you’re about to see was scheduled to appear on Style Me Pretty Florida this morning. Needless to say, lots of happy dancing ensued and even the little guy did some flips in my belly.

So grateful that I was a part of such a talented and creative team of people. The gorgeous images are all by my good friend Diana Lupu and all of the incredible details were styled by the fabulous Kasey Davenport of Kasey D Weddings. And aren’t the models ridiculously good looking? A list of the other talented vendors that made this shoot possible is available here.

When Kasey told me her vision for the shoot, I was immediately on board and got to work on this feather and antler suite. The originals are designed with charcoal and pastels to exude the warmth and texture of crackling logs in a fireplace. The lettering on the envelope was painted with a custom-mixed turquoise gouache. It was sooo difficult choosing only a few photos to post, but you can see the full gallery here.

custom framing | craig frames on amazon

One of the reasons it’s taken so long to get art up on my walls is because I needed special frame sizes. I checked out custom framing places in the neighborhood, at Eastern Market, I looked at Michaels too. Even with Living Social and Groupon deals that appeared once in a while, the triple digits still remained. Not to mention the complicated explanations about glass types and dollars per inch. I just need to frame a $20 print from Etsy, people; I’m not framing an original Picasso.

I’d almost given up when I stumbled upon Craig Frames on Amazon. It’s the custom framing haven for custom-framing-ophobes. You pick a frame style, and every inch x inch combination imaginable is listed – 12×13, 8×15, 9×9, etc. Glass and backing is included too. No more triple digit costs, no more complicated calculations.

the nursery. kind of.

1. Andrew spends almost all his spare time nose-deep reading (and talking) about history and politics, so when I found this illustrated, letter-pressed president print, I didn’t even think twice. What both of us love, all in one package.

2. We wanted to keep our sanity and have a crib that was transportable. We just have to fold and roll whenever we want the room to ourselves.

3. Love this bookshelf. Find it here or here.

4. I’m obsessed with Jelly Cat stuffed animals. This gator is one of my favorites.
